Crohn’s disease is a long-term inflammatory disease that affects around 565,000 people in the United States. The symptoms of this disease mainly affects the gut and digestion and they can gradually appear and get worse over time. While the cause of this disease hasn’t been proven, experts believe that it is mainly caused by an autoimmune reaction where the immune cells attack the healthy cells in the body.
The most common symptoms of Crohn’s disease are diarrhea, weight loss, and stomach pain. Some early signs of Crohn’s disease are fever, loss of appetite, nausea, eye pain or redness, painful joints, and tiredness. Symptoms can also get worse with stress or after eating certain foods.
There are five different types of Crohn’s disease including ileocolitis, ileitis, Crohn’s colitis, gastroduodenal Crohn’s disease, and jejunoileitis. These 5 types of Crohn’s disease all have slightly different symptoms.
Early signs of Crohn’s disease symptoms can easily be mistaken for other conditions. For example, some of these conditions are stomach infections, food poisoning, allergies, and intestinal tuberculosis.
Although there is no cure for Crohn’s disease, treatment can help relieve many of these symptoms.
