“Don’t let exhaustion take control of your life.” People with either ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s disease may feel extreme fatigue from time to time. Even though not everyone with the illness experiences this symptom, many people do experience being excessively tired. Many people with this symptom feel like there is nothing that can be done, but there are in fact many ways to combat fatigue.

In order to regain energy, it is important to first understand where the problem comes from. Many reasons why people with Crohn’s or colitis feel fatigue are mainly due to either depression, lack of nutrients, thyroid issues, or anemia.

After understanding the cause, see your doctor and find out what treatment would be best to help you regain your energy. These treatments can be anything changing up your diet, increasing your movement, eating well-balanced meals, taking supplements, and limiting caffeine and other energy drinks. People with ulcerative colitis or Crohn’s don’t all have the same symptoms and may need different kinds of treatment.
